Starting a New Writing Project for the Year

As the year has just begun, I’m sure we all are looking for something to start and to work on throughout this time. Some of us might be looking for a brand new hobby, which might be learning how to crochet. Others may have already started this writing project and they are working to finish it. That’s one of the many beautiful natures of January. The month compells us all to think within and to yearn for something more and fulfilling.

Following that feeling in January, to me, I like to feel refreshed and enjoy the cool weather this month brings. It already snowed for the first time this year, so what’s more than a better time to enjoy a project. I know for myself and where I am with my life, I wish to start one a project to write. Who knows where it’ll go? We have to start things, right?

Why I’m Starting A Writing Project

Before I paused my degree, I was pursuing an English major and a minor in Creative Writing. Writing is something that is my second language and yet I have been unsure how to relearn it again. I have been writing since as long as I could remember. With my work, it was simply for fun and I never necessarily had an end goal with it.

I can say that I have been consistent with the idea of wanting to become an author. It’s something I have always longed for since I was an early teen. Growing up, I can still make that idea a reality and be more determined by it. Which is why I have started this blog because even writing blog posts is something I can do a little at a time.

One factor that is hindering me is that I put down the pencil and writing has become very distant. The fire I once had is no longer burning the same way it was before. My other reasoning is that with me working a retail job, most of my time or day is at work. It makes it a little hard to find an opportunity to pick up my notebook and simply just write.

That’s where the novel project comes into play.

Where This Originated From

One of my favorite writers and youtubers named Christy Anne Jones inspired me to have a designated name for a book project. It’s to create something private and as if it was something so dear to me. I stumbled across her when she was working on her own, which was called Project Teacup at the time. Every other video, she would update us on her progress, any thoughts and struggles, and ideas that could change the course of her story. It is definitely quite a fun exercise I fell in love with and it makes me happy thinking about it because it can be my way of getting back into writing again.

I can’t express my appreciation for her and I think it’s a good idea for all people even if it’s just something we can use to be creative. Her idea spoke to me at a perfect time because I always knew I wanted to write. I have some short stories I recently started or even poetry, but it didn’t bring back that rekindling. I’ve searched through so many strategies and nothing clicked.

This writing project is something I felt within my heart that’ll work for me and my busy work-like balance for sure!

Introducing the Name of my Project

For the project I will be starting, it has the name of Project Studio, which I thought was perfect for the novel I am going to attempt to write. I don’t want to give too much away because it is a personal and private thing for me. Following similarly after what Christy did, I shall use my blog or other social media to share any thoughts or ideas. As well as what comes to mind that might inspire or help anyone who comes across it. Project Studio is going to be a slice-of-life comedy with a mixture of romance and daily living for my main character.

Recently, my mom bought me a journal I was eyeing at Barnes and Noble. The cover is just so cute and it’s divided into lined paper as well as bullets. It warms me that I have finally found a purpose for a journal now, especially when I have so many blank ones!

I will write to my heart’s content when I’m feeling creative and add onto it over time and throughout this year. The other thing I have to keep in mind is that there will be no time limit or expectations of filling this journal. I know that for myself if I place a timeframe, it’ll make me feel stressed and I won’t take my time with ideas that could take a moment to come to me.

Hello, Project and Goodbye for Now

I’m already excited for what this little writing project is going to turn into. Seeing that as I’m getting older, I want to start taking my craft and time more seriously. Especially if I’m so young now and that time is a luxury you realize is something you can’t take for granted. If I’m given ten minutes to write my creative story, then I’ll take those minutes and be happy for them.

I hope I was able to inspire you and hopefully you’ll pick up a hobby for this new year! Whether it’s personal, maybe even  for fun, or something you’ve already been working on this whole time. I thank you for stopping by and I wish you and I luck on our little adventures. Until next time, do take care, alright?

LOVE, MYA
